the sun?

and the lambent green grass?
and roses
and cosmos
and ruddy sunflowers
perched on hot black dirt
and barefoot
and yard sales
and popsicles
and chlorine
ladybugs
earthworms
and garden spiders
iced tea
flip flops
tank tops
baseball
sweet corn
ripe tomatoes
eight o’clock sunsets
open windows
screen doors
stargazing
crickets
thunder
summer?

You actually made me nostalgic there. I am very over winter.
Comment by Rachel February 12, 2008 @ 12:07 amYou see, all this time I have actually thought that I hate summer. But your post makes me realize how much I love it when you take away the suffocating heat and humidity. :)
Comment by CathyC February 12, 2008 @ 6:13 ami hope it is coming soon. that groundhog didn’t give me much hope.

Comment by Linda February 12, 2008 @ 10:14 amYes! And this morning it was actually not cold outside. It’s chilly. In the 40s. But not freezing.
Spring is coming. Really and truly. I swear.

Comment by Sarah February 12, 2008 @ 1:12 pmDreaming of all of those things as I gaze out the window at 6 inches of fresh powdery white.
Comment by Anna February 12, 2008 @ 3:22 pmchlorine is one of my favorite smells in the world…ah
Comment by mommymae February 12, 2008 @ 9:17 pmJust today I was thinking about a post I wrote smack dab in the middle of summer when I was anxiously waiting for fall. Right now we have a preview of spring - it was actually 70 today - but I have to remember March is an awfully long, dreary month. The nice thing about seasons is that they change.
Comment by molly February 12, 2008 @ 11:23 pmIt’s funny to me how it does seem so very long ago, given that summer stretched way into November here. Still, when the sun came out the other day, it was wildly exciting. Come on, spring!
Comment by meg February 13, 2008 @ 6:19 ammy husband i have determined that winter is highly overrated. i just want to see my tulips and daffodils.
Comment by Robyn February 17, 2008 @ 9:08 amGreat post!
Comment by franticallysimple February 17, 2008 @ 11:18 amWhat about dripping popsicles and picnics on the front lawn?

Comment by Liz February 20, 2008 @ 7:23 amOh man…that was enought o make me think of packing a bag and moving to Bali
Comment by bombaygirl February 24, 2008 @ 1:36 pmOh…don’t forget the flies! Our area in Northern California seems to have a lock on the fly population in the summer. Nasty things.
Comment by bombaygirl February 24, 2008 @ 1:37 pm*sigh*
Comment by Kathy Jordan February 27, 2008 @ 9:36 amI love summer. everybody says,”oh, you’ll miss this cold weather in the summer. you’ll be sorry when it’s hot”. not me. never. I love it.
yes, I remember it. thank you for this lovely moment. :)
Comment by J February 27, 2008 @ 4:58 pmAnd fireflies, and sun on my shoulders, and lazy days lying in the grass watching the bugs busy along. I keep making promises to summer that I’ll enjoy every last bit of it if only it will hurry up and get here. Love your site!
