mistake,

mistake floor

at long last,

new floor

feeling very proud of ourselves this morning, for turning big fat lemons into tolerable lemonade.  also feeling very swedish country.  and tired.

made it through the homeschool gauntlet with flying colors (I thought).  Even gritted my teeth and signed up to host the Valentine celebration.  Me!  a Host! egads.  Hopefully a craftier, wiser mom will step up to assist me.  please.

just an aside, and I speak as someone who has an immediate family chock full of teachers - why do all Kindergarten teachers seem to be on uppers?  If opposites attract, the kind lady who introduced herself last night and gave us approximately 342 pages of handouts (remember - school is one day per week) must be married to a sloth.  And my daughter will adore her.

I can only assume since I’ve heard not a peep from my son’s 2nd grade teacher that she is laid-back.  hallelujah.

So I returned from the meeting, fortified myself with rioja and olives and  CHEESE and we completed the sparkling satin maple loveliness you see before you.  Of course, now everything else - the walls, the trim - looks like crap and must be redone.  Isn’t that just the way with this blasted home ownership thing?

On a completely unrelated note, we listened to Treasure Island on cd last night while working.  It’s the hard-to-find unabridged version narrated by Neil Hunt and it is fabulous.  We are total books-on-tape geeks and this is one of the best narrations I have ever heard.  The guy does at least 6 different British dialects/accents and shiver me timbers I swear we checked the case several times looking for additional voices.  Highly recommend (if you check on Amazon I left a lone review).  Treasure Island always was one of my favorite stories, and you don’t have to be 12 to enjoy this.

Going for paint chips today, checking on estimates for duct cleaning after all that sanding, and maybe a little picnic in the park with the kids if it doesn’t get too hot.  ha!  fat chance.

adios, mi amigas.

The floors look so fantastic. Good work. And good choice to start again. So are the walls soon to be that same orange color on flickr YOC? Wasn’t that fabulous? Can’t wait to see what you and the artiste decide on.

Cheers!

They look SO good. I am lately a fan of dark floors, but that looks very “gallery” to me. Yum. Did the dark stain kind of darken the cracks between the boards? I love that.

The floors look amazing! I apologize for not being the one to scream, “No don’t do it” because I definitely thought it ;)

I loved Lou’s Kindy teacher because she was straight-forward and sarcastic. Best teacher I’ve ever known (and I also have a family full) but she had complaints from parents because she wasn’t “nice” enough. Lou loved her too and has her first “sweet” and “nice” teacher this year (3rd grade) and is not handling it well.

The floors look great — I like the color! I know, after I finished painting my bath, I thought the baseboards and flooring looked bad in comparison. I don’t have the energy to improve them right now though!

My mother-in-law is a kindergarten teacher, and I wouldn’t call her overly peppy. She’s retiring from teaching after this year though, so maybe she’s seen too much to be peppy anymore!

My Kindergarten teacher was awesome.

When I was in fifth grade she had to go to drug rehab for being addicted to pain killers.

(Pretty floors! Pretty floors! But I’m still partical to the dark ones… perhaps they just photo’d well?)

Pretty floors!

Glad to hear the meeting went well. Whew! But hosting?! Ack! At least you have a head start, it being in Feb. and all.

My teenaged kids still listen to books on tape. I do, too, sometimes. It’s amazing what a difference a good reader makes to your enjoyment of the book.

Not wanting to sound original..(ha ha) the floors look GREAT! They really do. I love swedish country and I love the light floors. I also know we both love color and any color will make these stand out even more. I know you really appreciate them after the struggle, illness etc…you can now look down at your feet and smile :)

This is beautiful..and on another note, every time you mention Spanish cheese or Tapas in this blog..I have to say my stomach cries out to you :)

LOVE the floors.

LOVE books on tape. Listening to A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

LOVE your commentary on meeting other parents and homeschooling families. I didn’t know you homeschooled. I did for one year and then I had a baby and then I got used to my kids at their school- but it’s private and I don’t think we can be paying private tuition until 12th grade. i’m interested to find out what curric. you use (if any!). My husband was homeschooled and it’s funny because he is a public school teacher now and when his mom’s friends/aquaintances found out he was teaching “public” they al gasped…oh please!
